My "Cow Abstractions" Wall Quilt
When Violet Craft published her “Cow Abstractions” quilt in 2018, I immediately purchased a hard copy…where it sat until 2022.
I finally finished her in August 2023 and I’m so pleased with how she turned out! I’m in LOVE with this quilt <3
My version is scaled down 64% from the original, so it measures about 2ft x 3ft.
The Real Life Bovine Inspiration
Fat Neck is my favorite cow; she’s a beautiful red angus cow who loves cookies & corn, but hates marshmallows.
Her neck is wider than her head, so she easily slips out from between the stanchion posts; hence the name, Fat Neck.
The Color Palette
I decided to emulate my favorite cow as much as I could in shades of browns in solid fabrics.
I used gorgeous warm colored prints and batiks from my stash for the background…similar to a colorful summer sunset.
I scaled the pattern down 64% from the original and cut out all the foundation pieces.
Here are some detail photos of the back of the quilt and facing. I LOVE the gingham print with the tiny white and blue flowers.
I quilted it using a 1/2″ spaced horizontal quilting design. It adds texture to the piece without being distracting.
Thank you so much for reading and for your support!
Take care and happy sewing & creating, my friends. Stay weird xo -R 😉
